The data analysis portion of the statistics course heavily relies on the suitability of technology from interactive and investigative perspectives. Therefore, we make every effort to provide students and teachers with easy access to computers to facilitate learning for our statistics students. In this course, students are taught four broad conceptual knowledge sets:
Exploring Data, which describes patterns and deviations;
Sampling and Experimentation, which involves planning and conducting studies; Anticipating Patterns, which involves exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation;
Statistical Inference, which involves estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses.
Students who pass the AP statistics course may not have to take introductory statistics in their first year at their chosen universities.
The number of students taking Statistics courses in colleges and high schools is almost the same as those taking Calculus courses, according to an article published in the Chronicle of Higher Education. The participation rate in Statistics courses has increased by 45% between 1990 and 2000. AP Statistics, a similar introductory-level Statistics course, is a requirement for those studying social sciences, health sciences, or business departments. Every year, more than 200,000 university students attend introductory Statistics courses offered by mathematics or Statistics departments.
In addition, many students take Statistics courses independently of mathematics and Statistics departments. Science, engineering, and mathematics departments are preparing for advanced Calculus-based Statistics courses. Students who take and excel in AP courses have an advantage in the university application process compared to regular applicants. They may also be exempt from these courses when starting university and can more easily pursue double major programs.
